Avride, an Austin-based autonomous vehicle startup under the Nebius Group, has launched a commercial robotaxi service in Dallas in partnership with Uber. This development follows a multi-year agreement established in October 2024, which also includes the deployment of Avride’s sidewalk delivery robots for Uber Eats in multiple cities. The robotaxi service, initially featuring a human safety operator, covers a 9-square-mile area in Dallas, with plans for future expansion and fully driverless operations. Avride’s fleet comprises all-electric Hyundai Ioniq 5 vehicles equipped with its self-driving technology. The company will initially manage the fleet, with Uber eventually taking over day-to-day operations, including maintenance and rider support.
This strategic move is part of a broader $375 million investment and commercial commitment from Uber and Nebius, highlighting the significant stakes involved for both companies. Avride’s collaboration with Uber is poised to enhance its market presence and technological capabilities, as Uber aims to integrate autonomous vehicles into its network in at least 10 cities by 2026. The partnership reflects Uber’s aggressive expansion into autonomous vehicle technology, complementing its existing collaborations with companies like Waymo and WeRide. For Avride, this venture not only strengthens its position in the autonomous vehicle sector but also aligns with Uber’s vision of a future dominated by self-driving technology. As the service area in Dallas expands, Avride is set to play a crucial role in shaping the future of urban mobility.
