Automation Anywhere is reframing how enterprises approach sovereign AI as agentic systems move from analysis into execution across borders and regulatory regimes. CEO Mihir Shukla set out a “spectrum of control” model that extends sovereignty beyond data residency to cover how data is processed, which systems can act on it, where work is executed, and which legal jurisdictions apply, aiming to address new exposure points as AI agents trigger actions and traverse multiple environments.
At the core of this strategy is Automation Anywhere’s Agentic Process Automation (APA) platform, which the company positions as enabling end‑to‑end sovereignty without forcing data centralization or a single cloud deployment. The platform supports cloud, multi‑cloud, and on‑premises models; allows customers to decide where data and metadata reside, how and where they are processed, who controls access and encryption keys, and how workflows and agents are constrained, with policy enforcement, monitoring, and audit trails to support compliance in markets with tightening localization and governance rules.
Automation Anywhere argues that traditional sovereign AI approaches—built around a single vendor environment or cloud‑only model—are misaligned with real enterprise workflows that span multiple systems and jurisdictions, particularly as roughly three‑quarters of countries now implement some form of data localization. By allowing organizations to process data in place, limit unnecessary data movement, and keep agents operating within defined boundaries while integrating with customer‑selected data sources, models, and applications, the company is targeting highly regulated sectors and global operators that need to standardize AI operations without sacrificing regional compliance.
For executives, the proposed spectrum of control offers a governance framework for scaling agentic AI while managing regulatory risk, operational resilience, and vendor lock‑in. As agentic automation takes on more operational responsibility in finance, customer service, IT, HR, and other functions, Automation Anywhere’s approach seeks to make sovereignty a configurable enterprise control layer rather than a fixed deployment choice, positioning the APA platform as a strategic backbone for cross‑border, AI‑driven process execution.
