Astronomer, provider of the Astro orchestration platform built on Apache Airflow, reported 122% year-over-year ARR growth in its EMEA business and an 80% increase in regional customers, with EMEA now contributing nearly 20% of total revenue after launching its team there in 2024. The company is expanding its physical and technical footprint with a larger EMEA headquarters in London and additional Apache Airflow PMC members, product leaders, and account teams deployed across the region.

Management positions this growth as directly tied to AI adoption under stringent European data-governance and sovereignty rules, highlighting Astro Private Cloud and Remote Execution as options that allow enterprises to keep execution and data within their own Kubernetes environments while Astronomer handles orchestration. EMEA Vice President Phil Duggan argued that success with agentic AI will depend less on speed of adoption and more on building a governed, observable orchestration layer that can reliably scale AI workloads.

Customer use cases underscore the platform’s strategic role in core infrastructure: Norlys, following its acquisition of Telia Denmark, is using Astronomer to support a large-scale migration from AWS to Azure with a fully managed, Azure-native Airflow deployment aimed at cutting MWAA spend, lowering job latency, and reducing platform maintenance. U.K. financial services provider NewDay uses Astronomer to standardize execution of Airflow pipelines spanning financial reporting and customer operations, citing lower operational overhead, higher reliability, and the ability for data engineering teams to focus on value-added development instead of infrastructure management.

Astronomer’s momentum is supported by broader DataOps and orchestration trends, with Gartner estimating the DataOps tools category is growing at over 21% annually and identifying Astronomer as the fastest-growing DataOps vendor by cloud revenue and the market-share leader at 17%, ahead of major hyperscalers. Airflow adoption is also accelerating, with more than 80,000 organizations using the open-source project and survey data from the 2026 State of Apache Airflow Report indicating that 89% of users expect to apply Airflow to revenue-generating or external solutions and 32% already run GenAI or MLOps workloads in production.

Among Astronomer’s Astro customers, 62% report GenAI or MLOps use cases in production, suggesting a higher concentration of advanced AI workloads on its managed platform and reinforcing its positioning as a critical layer for AI-enabled data infrastructure. For executives, the key implications are that Astronomer is rapidly scaling its EMEA franchise from a small base, leveraging regulatory-grade data control as a competitive differentiator, deepening enterprise lock-in through mission-critical orchestration, and riding a structurally growing DataOps market in which it currently holds both growth and share leadership.
