According to the post, FLIP will not only test Astrolab’s wheels, batteries, and software, but will also carry Axiom Space’s LUMEN payload, a Digital Light Processing optical array projector intended for FLEX’s crew display console. The content suggests that DLP projection is being evaluated as a more temperature-resilient alternative to conventional LCDs in the extreme lunar environment.

The LinkedIn post notes that LUMEN’s deployment will provide data on mirror performance under vibration and on light output characteristics such as chromaticity, luminance, and contrast, with the goal of advancing the Technology Readiness Level of FLEX’s crew display system. Images referenced in the post show thermal vacuum testing of LUMEN prior to integration with FLIP, as well as joint crew stand and suit tests with Axiom Space and astronaut Chris Hadfield in Houston.
