Ares Interactive has raised $70 million in a Series A financing led by General Catalyst, in one of the largest early-stage game funding rounds in recent years, to accelerate its strategy of building a cross-platform, free-to-play games business anchored in AI-enabled development and live operations. The privately held company, founded in 2024 and operating studios 7th Inning in San Francisco and Swift Games in Berlin, plans to use the capital to speed content iteration, optimize user acquisition and live-ops, and expand its franchise portfolio around existing and upcoming titles. Leadership includes veteran games executives, supported by an advisory board with experience across app stores, publishing, and free-to-play operations, positioning Ares to execute at scale in a consolidating and increasingly performance-driven mobile and cross-platform market.

The company is already generating traction with its flagship title, Heroes vs Hordes, a survival roguelike RPG that has surpassed 13 million installs and maintains strong player ratings, serving as a proof point for Ares’ focus on polish, retention, and live service excellence. Next on the roadmap is Baseball Hits 26, an officially licensed baseball game aimed at fans seeking a more authentic experience, with additional titles planned for 2026, signaling an intent to build multiple long-lived franchises rather than one-off hits. President Mike DeLaet framed the raise as validation of Ares’ long-term, disciplined approach and a countercyclical bet in a market where many competitors are retrenching, while General Catalyst highlighted Ares’ use of AI workflows as a strategic differentiator in building durable gaming IP. For executives and investors, the funding sharply increases Ares Interactive’s capacity to invest in game development, acquire and retain players, and potentially pursue strategic partnerships or future financing from a position of strength.
