Anthropic has secured a potential $40 billion investment commitment from Google on top of a fresh $5 billion from Amazon, positioning the AI startup as one of the most heavily financed players in the sector and sharply increasing its access to compute. Google is investing $10 billion immediately at a roughly $350 billion valuation, with a further $30 billion contingent on Anthropic meeting performance milestones, while Amazon’s latest tranche is tied to Anthropic eventually spending up to $100 billion for about 5 gigawatts of capacity.
These deals deepen Anthropic’s dependence on hyperscalers for both capital and infrastructure, anchored by Google Cloud’s tensor processing unit–based platforms and a new commitment to supply an additional 5 gigawatts of compute over the next five years, on top of a previously disclosed 3.5‑gigawatt TPU arrangement starting in 2027. The funding and capacity are critical as Anthropic rolls out Mythos, its most powerful model to date with significant cybersecurity applications, whose high compute demands and misuse risks have led to restricted access and underscore why the firm is racing to lock in multi‑gigawatt, multi‑decade infrastructure partnerships while weighing a possible IPO as soon as October.
