Anthropic has launched a new feature called Citations for its developer API, designed to improve the accuracy and reliability of responses generated by its AI models. This feature allows developers to ‘ground’ answers in specific source documents, such as emails, by providing detailed references to the exact sentences and passages used. Citations is now accessible through Anthropic’s API and Google’s Vertex AI platform, offering a significant enhancement for applications in document summarization, Q&A, and customer support.
Currently, Citations is available for Anthropic’s Claude 3.5 Sonnet and Claude 3.5 Haiku models. While this feature is not free, it is priced based on the length and number of source documents. For instance, processing a document of approximately 100 pages would cost around $0.30 with Claude 3.5 Sonnet and $0.08 with Claude 3.5 Haiku. This investment could be valuable for developers aiming to reduce AI-induced errors such as hallucinations. By integrating Citations, Anthropic is positioning itself to address critical challenges in AI accuracy, potentially enhancing its competitive edge in the market.
