AirX has added its first Bombardier Challenger 604, registration 9H-ATGT, as the opening move in what founder John Matthews calls a “dash to 50” aircraft, signalling a clear step-up in fleet scale and category coverage. Rather than simply increasing capacity, the company is using the 604 to push long-range capability into the super-mid segment, aiming to sharpen unit economics and apply pricing pressure across adjacent cabin classes while retaining strict discipline over how each asset is deployed.

The aircraft, fully refurbished and repainted in April 2026, enters service in near factory condition with a wide stand-up cabin for 8–10 passengers and upgraded cabin technology, aligning with broker-led charter demand for flexible, mid-size long-range options. This fleet move is underpinned by a recently completed €115 million secured bond issue, which strengthens AirX’s balance sheet and funds continued expansion from its current 20-aircraft platform, with Matthews emphasising a simple financial focus: minimise cost per aircraft, maximise EBITDA per unit, and convert that into cash. Operating Europe’s second-largest private jet charter fleet across heavy jets, VIP airliners, and smaller cabins, AirX is using its diversified, broker-first model to scale while maintaining a consistent operating framework and to consolidate its position as a multi-segment player in the global charter market.
