OpenAI, the company behind artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT, continues to see an increasing number of users for its service. The company notes that weekly average users have surpassed 400 million this month, as compared to its 300 million weekly average users in December.

To go along with that, OpenAI reported that its paying users rose above 2 million in February. That’s a huge jump for the AI company, increasing more than 100% from what was last reported in September 2024.
What This Means for AI Stocks
These new numbers are encouraging for AI investors as they show demand for U.S. services are still on the rise. That’s particularly reassuring considering the chaos and concern DeepSeek caused with its updated AI model reveal last month. The launch called into question U.S. AI services and the costs behind them, leaving many stocks in the sector damaged.

OpenAI isn’t a publicly traded company, meaning investors can’t take a stake in it directly. However, there are still options for retail traders who want to gain exposure to the company. That includes buying shares of companies that have investments in OpenAI.
Starting with one of the biggest investors in OpenAI is Microsoft (MSFT), which has offered considerable support to the AI developer. Nvidia (NVDA) is another major player in the space that has invested in the company. While not part of the AI sector, Japanese financial company SoftBank (SFTBY) has dedicated $500 million to OpenAI’s business.
Comparing these stocks, Microsoft and Nvidia stick out with their Strong Buy ratings compared to the Hold rating for Softbank. NVDA stock offers a higher upside potential at 28.49% but MSFT’s 22.18% possible growth still makes it a strong candidate for investors to purchase.
