OpenAI Taps Big Consultancies to Accelerate Enterprise AI as It Battles with Anthropic

AI startup OpenAI, which is vying with rival Anthropic to scale adoption of AI by large organizations, has recruited more global consultancies into its fold. The Microsoft (MSFT)-backed startup has also launched the Codex Labs, a community of its experts to help organizations boost the integration of AI into their workflows.

In February, OpenAI launched “Frontier Alliances” to help businesses deploy AI coworkers or agents across their enterprises. The group comprised two of the Big 3 strategy consulting firms, McKinsey & Company and Boston Consulting Group, as well as industry heavyweights Accenture (ACN) and Capgemini (CGEMY).

OpenAI Doubles Down on Codex as Anthropic Gains Ground

On Wednesday, OpenAI announced that the global systems integrators it is now working with also include digital transformation leaders Cognizant (CTSH), Infosys (INFY), and Tata Consultancy Services, as well as strategic business consulting heavyweight PricewaterhouseCoopers.

At the core of the push is Codex, OpenAI’s coding agent and platform, which the startup noted is now used by over 4 million developers every week. However, beyond these developers, OpenAI said organizations are also increasingly integrating the platform into their workflows, including Virgin Atlantic, Ramp, Notion, Cisco (CSCO), and Rakuten (JP:4755).

OpenAI is also pushing Codex beyond coding and has added features such as browser-based work, image generation, and memory, among others. The move comes as Anthropic’s Claude AI models continue to gain attention from enterprises.

The startup believes the global consultancies can help to further its mission to scale enterprise AI adoption. “These firms know how to operate inside large enterprises,” OpenAI noted in a blog post.

The startup added that these firms also “know how to modernize software delivery, integrate new systems, support change across complex organizations, and help customers move from pilot to production.”
