Nvidia Stock (NVDA) Powers Up as it Blasts Away GPU Rivals

Shares in semiconductor giant Nvidia (NVDA) powered higher after it soared away from its rivals to dominate the GPU market.

Confident Investing Starts Here:

RTX Growth

According to figures from Jon Peddie Research Nvidia captured a dominant 92% share of the add-in-board GPU market in the first quarter of this year. Far ahead of rivals Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and Intel (INTC).

Nvidia grew its market share by 8.5% quarter over quarter with AMD down 7.3%. The total AIB market shipped 9.2 million units in the first quarter.

Nvidia’s growth was driven by the launch of its RTX 50 series GPUs, while AMD’s RDNA 4 launch came later in the quarter. Intel’s Battlemage B-series failed to make any impression according to the data.

In the overall PC GPU space including integrated graphics Nvidia also gained 3.6% again outperforming AMD and Intel, who posted respective declines of 1.6% and 2.1%.

AI Demand

The research found that the strength in discrete GPUs contrasted with a broader slowdown in the desktop CPU market, which shrank by 14.5% year over year and 20.6% quarter over quarter. However, data center GPU shipments rose 9.6%, a sign of continued demand for AI.

NVDA has had a difficult year given competition from Chinese rivals such as DeepSeek as well as the impact of tariffs and export curbs put in place by the Trump administration.

However, its fundamentals are strong serving as the cornerstone for innovations in GPUs (Graphic Processing Units), silicon chips, and hardware. Major tech companies and startups, such as OpenAI and xAI, depend on Nvidia’s products.
