Nvidia-Backed Reflection AI Targets $25B Valuation—What It Means for AI Investors

Reflection AI, a fast-growing startup backed by Nvidia (NVDA), is reportedly targeting a massive $25 billion valuation. According to The Wall Street Journal, the company is in talks to raise around $2.5 billion in new funding, which could significantly boost its valuation beyond its previous level. For investors, this isn’t just another funding round. It highlights the strong demand for AI, particularly in developer-focused tools, where significant investment continues to flow. It also supports the long-term growth outlook for Nvidia and highlights new opportunities in smaller AI startups shaping the next wave of innovation.

According to the report, JPMorgan Chase (JPM) is in talks to join the funding round through its security-focused investment arm, while existing investor Disruptive is also expected to participate.

Another AI Giant in the Making?

For context, Reflection AI was founded in 2024 by former Google (GOOGL) DeepMind researchers. The company is building U.S.-based AI tools, including coding assistants, to compete with global players. It is also partnering with Nvidia to develop open AI models that businesses, governments, and researchers can use and customize.

Recently, Reflection committed billions of dollars to build Korean-language AI models with South Korea’s Shinsegae Group, powered by thousands of Nvidia chips. The company plans to expand similar partnerships worldwide, aiming to become a key platform for “sovereign AI” used by U.S. allies. This broader push is designed to compete with China’s fast-growing AI capabilities and strengthen a U.S.-led AI ecosystem.

Why Nvidia Is Betting Big on Reflection AI

Reflection is one of several startups working closely with Nvidia to build powerful open AI models that can run on its chips. Nvidia has already invested about $800 million in the startup, valuing it at around $8 billion in a previous round, even though the company is still early in generating revenue.

This potential deal could strengthen Reflection’s position and support Nvidia’s broader goal of building an open AI ecosystem to compete with rapidly advancing technologies from China.

The chip giant is also actively helping Reflection grow by introducing it to potential customers, including foreign governments looking to build their own AI systems and maintain control over how the technology is used.

Is NVDA Stock a Buy, Hold, or Sell?

Wall Street remains highly optimistic about Nvidia’s long-term outlook. On TipRanks, NVDA stock has a Strong Buy consensus rating based on 41 Buys and one Hold assigned in the last three months. The average Nvidia price target of $273.34 implies 53% upside potential from current levels.
