Nintendo Can Avoid Tariffs With a Switch 2 Stockpile

Story Highlights

Nintendo Can Avoid Tariffs With a Switch 2 Stockpile

Nintendo (NTDOY) is reportedly taking advantage of President Donald Trump’s 90-day tariff pause by stockpiling Switch 2 consoles from Vietnam. New Bloomberg import data from February showed that Nintendo brought 750,000 Switch consoles to the U.S. during the month, more than the previous six months combined. This influx of original Switch consoles suggests that Nintendo will likely do the same with the Switch 2.

The Switch 2 will be released on June 5, and President Trump’s 90-day tariff pause ends in July. This gives Nintendo plenty of time to bring more Switch 2 units to the U.S. to avoid increased prices after tariffs return. Estimates claim the company could have millions of consoles imported to the U.S. before tariffs go into effect.

These Switch 2 units will likely come from Nintendo’s Vietnam manufacturing facility. The company moved a large portion of its Switch manufacturing to the country a few years ago to avoid the trade war between the U.S. and China. This has most of the Switches made in Vietnam sent to the U.S.

Will Nintendo Avoid Tariffs With Vietnam’s Help?

President Trump has said his pause on tariffs will allow for negotiations between America and other countries. Vietnam’s leaders have reportedly been in talks with the President to lower or remove tariffs. If those talks are unsuccessful, it could be bad news for Nintendo when tariffs start again, as Trump’s tariffs on Vietnam are some of the highest at 46%.

Is Nintendo Stock a Buy, Sell, or Hold?

Turning to Wall Street, the analysts’ consensus estimate for Nintendo (NTDOF) is Moderate Buy, based on six Buy, two Hold, and one Sell rating over the last three months. With that comes an average price target of $81.64, representing a potential 18.35% upside.
