Issues with Outlook began around 6:20 p.m. on July 9, according to a dashboard that Microsoft maintains. It negatively impacted Outlook.com as well as Outlook mobile apps and desktop programs. After midnight on July 10, Microsoft announced that it was rolling out a fix for the problem.

“Our configuration changes have effectively resolved impact in targeted infrastructure. We’re now deploying the changes worldwide to resolve impact for all users,” Microsoft said in a social media post. The company added that most Outlook users should be back up and running within a few hours, and that it was continuing to monitor the service.

While Microsoft acknowledged that Outlook was down, and that it was fixing the issue, the technology giant has not said what the problem was or what caused the outage. On social media, some people posted screenshots of Outlook that simply said, “something went wrong.”

With hundreds of millions of active users, Outlook remains an important platform for Microsoft. Over the past year, the Seattle-based company has been enhancing its email service by adding artificial intelligence (AI) features and functions.
