Tech titan Microsoft (MSFT) appears to be ramping up its moves into gaming by scouring the Chinese market for talent.
MSFT Seeking Passionate Gamers
A report in TechCrunch today highlighted a Microsoft job listing on LinkedIn seeking a senior software engineer based in Beijing specializing in 3D rendering engines, particularly those used to build web browser-based video games such as Unity. According to TechCrunch Microsoft was laying it on thick in its job spec seeking out people with a “strong passion” for gaming and interested in “building innovative solutions for billions of users.”
It appears that this is a further signal that Microsoft is pumping up the rhetoric around and work on building a 3D gaming experience for its AI-powered chatbot Copilot.
MSFT in Gaming Drive
Back in February Microsoft issued the demo of an AI model called Muse which Microsoft
said would soon power short interactive games on Copilot. As per TechCrunch, Muse is trained on game developer Ninja Theory’s multiplayer battle arena game Bleeding Edge. It can understand the 3D game world, including game physics and how the game reacts to players’ controller actions, allowing the model to create gameplay rendered by AI.
Last May MSFT said that Copilot could soon be embedded into Xbox and PC games such as Minecraft to allow kids of all ages to ask questions of it to help them build their new worlds. It is also understood to have been looking at “character-based” Copilot features.
Any sign that this work is coming to fruition will be a huge lift in MSFT’s hunt for superiority in the AI race. The global AI in games market size is estimated to grow by $4.5 billion from 2024-2028 meaning there is a lot to play for.
