Without naming the specific models, Andrew Bosworth, Meta’s chief technology officer, told the outlet that the social media company’s AI bet in 2025 has started to pay off. Bosworth, who granted a side interview at the ongoing World Economic Forum annual meeting in Davos, said the models were “very good”.
Meta Runs to Catch Up with Peer in AI Race
The CTO’s comment comes as Meta is expected to release its advanced AI models — the text-based model codenamed Avocado and the visual-focused version codenamed Mango — during the first half of this year.
In late June, Meta formed the Superintelligence Labs to consolidate its AI teams into a single division to drive its AI ambitions. This came after the release of its Llama 4 AI models earlier in April was reportedly met with disappointment among developers.
In contrast, rivals have continued to gain momemtum. For instance, Alphabet’s (GOOGL) release of its Gemini 3 model was greeted with wide applause. The AI sentiment helped the California-based company to top the Magnificent Seven group in 2025 in terms of stock performance.
Is Meta Switching Strategy?
Meanwhile, apart from building its own in-house models and planning the launch of Llama 5, reports have also indicated that Meta is considering using Google and OpenAI’s models to power its family of apps. In addition, the tech giant is reportedly looking to shift to a closed-source AI model strategy for financial advantage while adopting third-party AI models, such as Chinese internet giant Alibaba’s (BABA).
Is Meta a Good Stock to Buy Now?
On Wall Street, Meta Platforms’ shares remain a Strong Buy based on analyst consensus rating. This breaks down to 37 Buys, six Holds, and one Sell issued by 44 analysts over the past three months.
At $821.33, the average META price target implies approximately 36% growth potential from the current trading levels.
