McDonald’s (MCD) is revamping its breakfast menu as it celebrates the 50th anniversary of its iconic breakfast sandwich, the Egg McMuffin.

To celebrate the Egg McMuffin’s debut on McDonald’s menus in 1975, the Chicago-based restaurant chain said it will offer three revised versions of its morning sandwiches: The Spicy Egg McMuffin, the Spicy Sausage McMuffin, and the Spicy Sausage McMuffin with Egg starting on July 8.
McDonald’s said in a news release that the new spicy breakfast sandwiches will leave the company’s menu later this summer, and that the three new breakfast sandwiches are a seasonal promotion. However, an exact date for when the promotion will end hasn’t been announced.
Celebrating Breakfast
The original Egg McMuffin was created by California franchise owner Herb Peterson, who began experimenting with different flavors in the early 1970s and eventually settled on a fried egg and slices of American cheese and Canadian bacon on an English muffin. Until 1975, McDonald’s only served a menu comprised of various hamburgers.
Pancakes were also added to McDonald’s menu in the 1970s and remain a staple to this day. Other breakfast items that have come and gone from the menu over the years include biscuits, egg burritos, and donuts. Breakfast items have proven so popular that, in 2015, McDonald’s made most of its breakfast items available to customers at all hours of the day. MCD stock is up 3% this year.
Is MCD Stock a Buy?
The stock of McDonald’s has a consensus Moderate Buy rating among 27 Wall Street analysts. That rating is based on 12 Buy, 14 Hold, and one Sell recommendations issued in the last three months. The average MCD price target of $328.20 implies 11.26% upside from current levels.
