Connected to Vehicles
Li Auto has produced a range called Livis, which features a 36-gram lightweight frame and Zeiss lenses as standard. They are priced from RMB 1,999 or about $280.
They include a camera, open-ear audio, and voice interaction powered by Li Auto’s MindGPT-4o multimodal model. They can connect with Li Auto vehicles for functions such as climate control and navigation audio and comes with a wireless charging case for extended use.
Customers, who were able to get their hands on the glasses earlier this week, can apparently use them for up to 19 hours a day if they see fit to do so. They are being sold through the Li Auto app, e-commerce site JD.com (JD) and retail stores.
Fan Haoyu, the senior vice-president of the product department of Li Auto, said: “Li Auto’s AI glasses, Livis, are an important implementation carrier of our strategy of’seamless smart experience inside and outside the vehicle.”
Indeed, analysts said that the Livis launch marked a ‘cross-border breakthrough’ from the smart car field to the smart wearable device field.’ Li will hope it also helps accelerate its share price, which is down nearly 30% this year – see chart above.
All Eyes on AI
It comes only days after Chinese tech rival Alibaba (BABA) launched its new Quark smart glasses. They are priced from around $270 and are powered by Alibaba’s own Qwen AI model.
Some of the biggest names in tech are developing smart glasses. Meta (META) controls about 80% of the VR and smart-glasses market, boosted by its Quest and Ray-Ban smart glasses lineup. Meanwhile, Apple (AAPL) sells its Vision Pro, and Samsung, working with Google (GOOGL) recently launched the Galaxy XR headset with AI features.
In China, the competition is also heating up. Xiaomi (XIACF) released similar glasses in June, and Baidu (BIDU) already sells its own AI-powered pair.
They are all chasing a growing market. According to a research report by Polaris Market Research, the global AI smart glasses market was valued at $2.34 billion in 2024 and is expected to hit $7.14 billion in 2034.
