Instagram Could Be Coming to Your TV as META Targets YouTube Audience

Meta Platforms (META) is reportedly exploring a dedicated TV app for Instagram, which could bring the social media platform to living room screens for the first time. The move shows Meta’s effort to grow Instagram’s video audience and compete more directly with Alphabet’s (GOOGL) YouTube.

Meta Weighs Instagram TV App

Instagram head Adam Mosseri revealed at the Bloomberg Screentime conference in Los Angeles on October 9, 2025, that the company is exploring a TV app for the platform.

Mosseri said Instagram needs to adapt to changing user habits, noting that more people now watch videos on their TVs. He acknowledged that not developing a TV app earlier was a missed opportunity, adding that Instagram now aims to deliver a strong presence across all major devices. He added that if people are watching more on TV, then the company needs to be there too.

Meta’s Plan to Rival YouTube

This possible TV app would let Instagram compete directly with YouTube, which has long led TV-based video streaming with its dedicated app. By bringing Reels and other videos to TVs, Meta hopes to boost viewer engagement and create more ad opportunities.

Notably, Instagram, with 3 billion monthly users, has evolved from a photo-sharing app to focus on messaging, Stories, and Reels. A TV app could expand Instagram’s reach and challenge TV ads, but success will rely on usability, partnerships, and ad results. Moreover, making vertical videos work well on TV may be tricky.

Meanwhile, Instagram’s focus on short-form videos already puts it in competition with TikTok, especially in countries like India, where TikTok is banned and Instagram expects strong growth.
