How Roblox (RBLX) Is Turning Teens into Millionaires

Roblox (RBLX), once seen as a simple platform for kids to make blocky games, has become a serious money-making space, even for teens, according to Bloomberg. Today, with nearly 100 million daily users, studios are willing to pay millions to acquire successful user-created titles. As a result, many young creators are now turning their Roblox success into major paydays. In June, research from video-game-analytics firm Naavik showed that nearly half of the top-earning Roblox games had already been purchased from their original creators.

Policy changes at Roblox have helped fuel this trend. As of December, players can now legally transfer game ownership, which was something that used to go against the platform’s rules. Roblox itself doesn’t currently get involved in these sales but supports a growing developer economy. This booming resale market has led to massive deals. Indeed, Voldex Entertainment, a game-buying company, acquired Brookhaven RP, a former top Roblox game, from an anonymous teen developer, and had earlier bought hits like Driving Empire and Ultimate Football.

Voldex CEO Alex Singer says that the payouts are attracting more creators and helping grow its player base. It is also worth noting that Roblox’s top 10 developers each earned about $36 million in the last year, and the company expects to pay over $1 billion to creators in 2025. Interestingly, most deals take place quietly, often through Discord chats, with some teen developers walking away with hundreds of thousands—or even millions—of dollars for their work.
