House Passes Trump’s Megabill in 218-214 Vote

The House of Representatives has voted to approve President Trump’s megabill in a 218-214 vote. Every single Democrat voted against the bill while two Republicans defected and sided with them. The House consists of 220 Republicans and 212 Democrats, meaning that the bill could have been scrapped if four Republicans voted “no.”

In the early hours of Thursday, the House voted 219-213 in favor of beginning the debate process, which precedes voting.

Hakeem Jeffries Breaks House Speech Length Record

The voting finally process commenced after Democratic Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries held the House floor for eight hours and 44 minutes, breaking the previous record of eight hours and 32 minutes.

House Democrats were visibly emotional following the decision. “The amount of kids who are going to go without health care and food — people like my mom are going to be left to die because they don’t have access to health care,” said Rep. Brittany Peterson. “It’s just pretty unfathomable.”

Now, the bill heads to Trump’s desk for final approval. Trump has already scheduled a bill ceremony singing for tomorrow, July 4, according to Punchbowl News.
