Home Depot (HD) Stock Options Traders Are Pricing In a $15 Price Swing after Earnings

Home Depot (HD) stock options traders are pricing in an earnings move of roughly $15 per share based on the May 22 weekly options chain, which captures the company’s May 19 earnings date. With the stock trading around $297.55, the closest at-the-money strike is $297.50, where the call last traded at $7.72 and the put at $7.15, creating a straddle price of about $14.87. That implies a move of roughly 5%, and places the expected post-earnings range at approximately $282.70 on the downside and $312.40 on the upside.

The nearby strikes support that same general range, which makes the implied move look consistent rather than random. In fact, the $300 strike has a $6.45 call and an $8.75 put, creating a $15.20 straddle. The $295 strike is also close, with a $9.27 call and a $6.27 put for a combined $15.54. Volume was fairly active on both sides, but the put side showed slightly heavier interest near the money, especially at the $297.50 and $300 strikes.

Overall, traders appear to be positioning for volatility more than a clear one-way bet. The options market is basically saying that Home Depot could swing around 5% after earnings, but it is not screaming that the move has to be bullish or bearish. The slightly heavier put activity may suggest some downside hedging, which makes sense since the stock is in a downtrend.
