Gemini on TV, which goes beyond the simple command function of Google Assistant, provides additional features such as finding a show, brainstorming a family topic, or assisting with complex homework questions with the aid of YouTube. The chatbot on television will also be able to provide reviews for movies and help users learn through conversational prompts.
Google noted that the chatbot is currently available on the QM9K television series produced by TCL, a Chinese television manufacturer. It also plans to introduce the AI assistant to other devices, such as the Google TV streamer, Walmart Onn 4K Pro streaming box, and the 2025 U, U8, and UX televisions produced by Hisense (HISEF).
Additionally, it will be included in other TCL TV models like the 2025 TCL QM7K, QM8K, and X11K. According to Shalini Giovilpai, VP for Google TV, the platform now powers over 300 million active Google TVs worldwide.
Big Tech Keeps a Tight Grip on the AI Race
The new integration comes a few days after rival Microsoft (MSFT) rolled out Gaming Copilot, a personal gaming AI sidekick, into Xbox, its video games brand. It highlights the growing trend of Big Tech companies pushing for widespread AI integration, aiming to incorporate artificial intelligence into the daily lives of both regular consumers and enterprise clients.
Just last week, YouTube, owned by Alphabet, rolled out AI tools on its streaming platform to help retain creators and boost revenue. Amazon (AMZN) also launched an AI-powered agent to assist third-party sellers on its e-commerce platform. Not to be left out, Meta Platforms (META) also unveiled the AI-powered Ray-Ban smart glasses, called Hypernova.
