Google Expands Gemini AI Capabilities in Chrome
Gemini in Chrome now allows users to make inquiries via a sidebar and delivers answers across multiple tabs. It also provides more personalized responses through Google’s Personal Intelligence (GPI) feature, which connects services like Gmail and Google Photos to provide better answers based on users’ personal data.
Beyond this, the sidebar supports everyday productivity tasks. For example, users can schedule meetings through Google Calendar, check locations via Google Maps, and draft or send emails directly from Chrome without switching apps.
Originally launched earlier this year, the sidebar assistant builds on an upgrade to Google’s floating window feature released in 2025. The feature has been improved and can now help users edit images on the web using Nano Banana 2. Overall, these updates show that Google is turning Chrome into a more AI-powered browser tool.
However, the most advanced version of this feature has not been released globally. It is currently available only to users on paid AI Pro and AI Ultra Plans in the United States. A wider rollout could make Gemini in Chrome much more powerful for users.
Asia-Pacific Expansion Signals Google’s Growing AI Ambitions
Google has been expanding its new Chrome feature steadily since January 2026. The latest launch positions the company in direct competition with other browser-based artificial intelligence tools, such as Microsoft’s (MSFT) Copilot, which is integrated into the Edge browser.
Notably, Chrome is the world’s most widely used browser, giving Google a large user base to roll out its new features. By bringing Gemini into the browser and expanding across more regions, the company is reinforcing its position as a leading player in the AI browsing space.
This expansion supports Google’s goal to integrate Gemini across the products within its ecosystem. The company has already added the model to Search, Gmail, Google Docs, and other products to make AI services more widely available to its users. The new launch is also set to add millions of potential users to Google’s growing ecosystem.
