Google (GOOGL) Releases a Smarter Gemini AI and Eyes Apple Partnership

Earlier today, Tech giant Google (GOOGL) announced the release of Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview (I/O edition), which is an improved version of its AI model that comes with major upgrades, especially for coding and creating interactive web apps. This new version is available through Google’s API, Vertex AI, AI Studio, and the Gemini chatbot app for web and mobile devices. It is also priced the same as the previous Gemini 2.5 Pro model. The launch comes shortly before Google’s annual I/O developer conference, where more AI models and tools are expected.

Interestingly, Google says that the updated Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview (I/O edition) performs much better in several important coding tasks. These include transforming and editing code, building interactive web apps, and managing complex workflows. As a result, the model now leads the WebDev Arena Leaderboard and beat the previous version by 147 Elo points. It also excels in video understanding tasks, where it achieved a score of 84.8% on the VideoMME benchmark.

Along with better performance, the update addresses developer feedback by reducing errors in function calling and improving trigger rates. It is also designed to combine ease of use with better visual design. It is worth noting that developers can start using Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview and use features like Canvas, which allow users to build web apps using simple prompts. At the same time, Google is reportedly working toward a deal with Apple (AAPL) to bring Gemini to new iPhones later this year.

Turning to Wall Street, analysts have a Strong Buy consensus rating on GOOGL stock based on 29 Buys and nine Holds assigned in the past three months. Furthermore, the average GOOGL price target of $199.17 per share implies 21.5% upside potential from current levels.
