Google (GOOGL) Is Rolling out Its Gemini AI Assistant to Cars

Tech giant Google (GOOGL) is starting to roll out its Gemini AI assistant to cars with Google built-in, replacing the older Google Assistant. This update makes it easier for drivers to talk naturally instead of using strict voice commands. With Gemini, users can ask more detailed questions, control apps, and even get information about their car while driving. The rollout will begin in the United States with English and will expand to more countries and languages over time. Importantly, this update will also be available for some existing cars through software updates, not just new models.

With this upgrade, Gemini can handle more tasks in real time. For example, drivers can ask it to find restaurants along their route, check traffic, or see if events might cause delays. In addition, it can summarize and reply to messages, thereby helping drivers stay focused on the road. It can also control music using simple, natural requests, even if the user doesn’t know exact station names. On top of that, a feature called Gemini Live, which is still in testing, allows for more open conversations, such as learning about a destination or getting ideas for things to do.

At the same time, Google is working closely with carmakers to connect Gemini more deeply with vehicle systems. This means drivers can ask questions about their car, adjust settings like temperature or defrosting, and check things like battery levels in electric vehicles. In some cases, Gemini can even use the car’s manual to give helpful answers or find nearby charging stations. Looking ahead, Google plans to expand Gemini further by linking it with apps like Gmail, Calendar, and Google Home.
