Google (GOOGL) Introduces a New Gemini 2.5 AI Model

On Wednesday, tech giant Google (GOOGL) introduced Gemini 2.5 Flash at its Google Cloud Next event. This new large language model is designed to be fast and cost-efficient, and it will soon be available in Vertex AI, Google’s platform for building and managing AI and machine learning models. Gemini 2.5 Flash is referred to as a “workhorse model” that is optimized for everyday AI use cases.

Google explained that the model delivers quick responses during high-volume customer interactions and can summarize information or access documents in real time. Interestingly, Gemini 2.5 Flash is also capable of adjusting how deeply it thinks through a task based on how complex the prompt is. Indeed, it builds on the original Gemini 2.5 model, which was launched in March and designed to solve more advanced problems.

In addition to the new model, Google introduced its seventh-generation tensor processing units (TPUs), known as Ironwood. It is worth noting that these are the company’s first chips built specifically for AI inference tasks, which is when a trained AI model makes predictions or decisions based on new data. Ironwood will be available in two configurations—one with 256 chips and a larger one with 9,216 chips—depending on the workload, and will be offered to Google Cloud customers later this year.
