Microsoft reduced the price of its Xbox Game Pass subscription service and announced that future Call of Duty game releases will no longer be available on the platform at launch, the company said on Tuesday. The changes mark the first major strategy shift under new gaming boss Asha Sharma.

Starting Tuesday, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will cost $22.99 per month, down from $29.99, while PC Game Pass is priced at $13.99, reduced from $16.49 monthly, the software firm said in a blog post.

The decision reverses a strategy implemented after Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard for $69 billion, when the company hoped Call of Duty’s popularity would attract users to Game Pass. New Call of Duty games will now be added to Game Pass services around a year after their release, the company said.

Microsoft’s Xbox brand has trailed rivals Sony and Nintendo after years of betting on subscription services and cloud gaming. The company faced consistent Game Pass price increases, declining console sales and a lack of compelling titles.

Uncertainty around Xbox’s future increased following the February exits of Phil Spencer and Sarah Bond in a leadership shake-up, leading to Microsoft insider Sharma taking the top role to lead the company’s gaming division.

The Verge reported last week, citing an internal memo to Xbox employees, that Sharma acknowledged Game Pass had become too expensive for players.
