Legacy automaker Ford (F) recently broke a record. And it is the worst kind of record, too. We know that Ford has had a litany of recalls over the last six months or so thus far, and apparently, the sheer number of them managed to trip a record. Ford has recalled more vehicles in 2025 than any other car company in history, reports note, and the year is only half over. This news did not particularly dampen shareholders’ enthusiasm, as shares were up fractionally in Monday afternoon’s trading.

Ford, thus far, has issued 89 separate recalls. Currently in second place is Forest River, a recreational-vehicle company that has had 21 recalls. Nine of Ford’s recalls were expansions of earlier recalls, while the remaining 79 were something else. Several of Ford’s recalls were tied to software issues, which meant they could be fixed by a simple over-the-air software update. Several others were tied to a recent audit of previous recalls that is still ongoing.
While this might sound like a problem, it turns out this is better news than you might expect. A recent J.D. Power quality study found that Ford’s product quality is actually on the rise. Four new models have won particular kudos, and Ford has doubled the size of the team working on safety and critical systems testing.
Hit a Gunman, Get a Free Car
This is one of those news items that could be good for Ford, or not so good, depending on what side of several major hot-button issues you fall. Richard Pryor, a church deacon at CrossPointe Community Church in Michigan, recently hit someone with his truck, a Ford F-150. A local Ford dealership heard about the incident, and gave him a second F-150 as a replacement.
That might sound bizarre, even horrifying; but the man that deacon hit was about to start a potential “…large-scale mass shooting” at the church in question, police noted. That man, Robert Browning, was “…wearing a tactical vest and armed with multiple weapons,” reports noted. Pryor, who was running late, pulled in and saw Browning open fire on the church itself. Pryor then decided to use his truck as a weapon, and hit Browning, even as his truck drew the gunman’s fire. Browning was subsequently shot by part of the church’s “security team,” Jay Trombley. And that was when the Ford dealership in question stepped in and replaced Deacon Pryor’s truck.
