“This means we can continue with our discussions internally with the EU-US trade deal, which had been paused,” said European Parliament President Roberta Metsola. Earlier this week, the bloc agreed to suspend the ratification process in light of “continued and escalating threats.” A preliminary ratification vote could come as soon as this month.
Greenland Framework Revives U.S.–EU Trade Deal
Trump lifted the tariffs after announcing a framework agreement that would grant the U.S. access to select areas of Greenland for military purposes and mineral rights.
The deal places a 15% tariff on most EU imports to the U.S., with a higher 50% tariff on steel and aluminum. In addition, the EU agreed to purchase U.S. energy, chips, and defense equipment. On the other side of the deal, U.S. industrial exports to the EU will be exempt from tariffs, while agricultural products, seafood, and other food items will receive preferential treatment.
