Electric Ford Transit City Not Enough to Save Ford Stock (NYSE:F)

Legacy automaker Ford (F) may have had to reconsider its electric aspirations, but that does not mean it is out of the electric vehicle field altogether. In fact, Ford is rolling out the new Transit City, an electric van that could mean some big things for Ford. Investors were a bit skeptical, though, and sent shares down over 2% in Monday afternoon’s trading.

The Transit City is geared toward fleet managers and commercial delivery operations. It looks to make it easier for things to get from point A to point B, and do so without causing a lot of noise, smoke, or any of those things that make home delivery of products and services feel less than wholesome. This is not Ford’s first foray into electric vans—the eTransit was already widely known before the Transit City—but the Transit City takes things up a couple of notches.

The Transit City van dispenses with the notion of a gas engine altogether, not even offering it as an option. It offers a 56 kWh battery, using the new lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) design platform, backed up by a 110 kW electric motor offering front-wheel drive. The result is roughly 160 miles of range between charges, which is actually double the distance that Ford Pro commercial customers used to report with previous vans.

Hypercar Development Continues

Meanwhile, Ford continues its work in hypercar development, though the odds of regular drivers being able to buy one seem fairly slim. But the development continues nonetheless, and Ford recently accounted for several new milestones in the process.

Dyno testing is currently underway, reports note, which is actually a major step in the process. Program manager Dan Sayers recently detailed where the hypercar development process will go in the near-term, and into 2028. Basic calibration tasks are underway, as are hybrid system characterizations, and more. Early reports suggest that what is coming out of Ford so far in hypercar development is actually going quite well, though it will likely be a while before we see much in the way of concrete developments.
