New trading tool for QQQ bullsPresident Trump announced that Israel and Lebanon have agreed to a 10-day ceasefire following conversations with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Trump will also invite the two leaders to a gathering in Washington, D.C.
“These two Leaders have agreed that in order to achieve PEACE between their Countries, they will formally begin a 10 Day CEASEFIRE at 5 P.M. EST,” Trump said in a Truth Social post.
Meanwhile, peace talks between the U.S. and Iran are still underway, with Pakistani officials expecting a “major breakthrough” in nuclear negotiations, sources familiar with the situation told Al Jazeera. Pakistan has played a key role in narrowing gaps between the two sides as the two-week ceasefire, set to expire on April 21, passes its halfway point. Earlier this week, Reuters reported that Iran is considering letting ships safely pass through the Omani side of the Strait of Hormuz as a form of diplomatic leverage.
Elsewhere, initial jobless claims for the week ended April 11 fell by 11,000 to 207,000, below the consensus estimate of 213,000. Continuing jobless claims, which trail initial claims by a week, rose by 31,000 to 1.818 million, slightly above the expectation of 1.81 million. Initial jobless claims serve as a gauge of layoffs, while continuing jobless claims track the number of people receiving unemployment benefits and reflect ongoing unemployment. The data points suggest that the economic effects of the U.S.–Iran war have not significantly impacted the labor market.
The Dow Jones is up by 0.14% at the time of writing.
