When the delegation arrives in Islamabad, it’s unclear whether it will engage with the U.S. in peace talks. However, the trip is intended to facilitate coordination with regional mediators and address the ongoing conflict.

Tensions Persist in Strait of Hormuz

Meanwhile, tensions between the U.S. and Iran in the Strait of Hormuz remain high. This morning, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth echoed President Trump’s claim that the U.S. will fire on any boat laying mines in the waterway. Earlier this week, a U.S. official told Axios that the IRGC planted more mines in the strait, marking the second time since the beginning of the war.

Additionally, the U.S. continues to blockade ships entering and leaving Iranian ports, despite Iran’s prior insistence that the restriction be lifted before any negotiations could begin.
