Initial jobless claims for the week ended December 27 were 199,000, fewer than the consensus estimate of 218,000 and falling from 214,000 during the prior week. Furthermore, continuing jobless claims, which trail initial claims by a week, were 1.866 million, below the estimate of 1.902 million and falling from 1.923 million.
