The Dow Jones (DJIA) is set to open Wednesday higher after President Trump said that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian had asked the U.S. for a ceasefire. At the same time, he also said the U.S. will only consider the request once the Strait of Hormuz reopens.

“We will consider when Hormuz Strait is open, free, and clear,” Trump said in a Truth Social post. “Until then, we are blasting Iran into oblivion or, as they say, back to the Stone Ages!!!”

Dow Jones Rises ahead of Trump’s Evening Speech

U.S. equities have surged this week on optimism that the war will end soon. On Tuesday, Pezeshkian said that Iran has the “necessary will” to end the war, although it must also secure security guarantees.

Trump has issued conflicting messages in recent days, earlier telling aides that he would be willing to end military operations even if the strait remains closed. He’s set to speak at 9 p.m. Eastern Time today and provide an update on the situation.
