DOJ Will Focus on America First Deals Under Trump

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) will continue the Biden administration’s strict control of merges and acquisitions under the Trump administration. That’s a surprise as experts predicted Trump’s DOJ would be more lenient on corporations.

With this stance, the DOJ will focus on America First law enforcement over regulation. The argument here is that the closer the DOJ monitors company mergers, the less likely regulation will be needed to manage companies that have consolidated sectors to gain significant control of them.

What Does This Mean for Americans?

Assistant Attorney General Gail Slater, head of the DOJ’s antitrust division, said big tech monopolies “are driving a Republican realignment away from big business and — under President Trump’s leadership — toward the working class that is reconnecting the party with its roots.”

These latest comments suggest that the DOJ will work to protect the average American, rather than large corporations. Supporting the everyday U.S. resident has been a focus of the Trump administration this term. The President has argued that his tariffs are part of this plan, as he promises citizens will face less, or even the complete elimination of, income tax, thanks to tariffs.

The President cannot enact this plan alone, as he’ll need Congress to support his tax cut plan. Members of Congress returned to Washington today after a break. The President has has floated the idea of raising taxes on millionaires, but many members of the Republican party have spoken out against this idea.
