Disney (NYSE:DIS) World Is Pricier Than Disneyland Paris

Story Highlights

Disney runs afoul of an unexpected comparison, but its Marvel universe content is still hotly anticipated.

The idea of a day at a Disney (DIS) park has been out of reach for a growing number of families out there, and a recent revelation may be the most disturbing of all. Apparently, for those who find themselves priced out of the Orlando, Florida experience, there may be a more budget friendly alternative…in Paris. Investors cared little, and sent shares up nearly 1.5% in the closing minutes of Monday’s trading.

As it turns out, the report noted, even with the idea of traveling overseas, that trip to Paris might actually cost less than its Floridian equivalent thanks to more affordable tickets at the park gate and reduced costs at the destination itself. Throw in the notion of exchange rates and there may be something to that.

But beyond the costs, the report noted, there is the matter of a culturally enriching experience to consider. There is more to Paris than Disney, after all, and it is all available. But the bottom line, based on some number-crunching at Fortune, revealed that the Parisian trip for a hypothetical family of four runs $6,669. The Floridian equivalent? $6,975. That is unsettling, and may have Disney brass particularly concerned that a family could go abroad cheaper than it could go to a park in, relatively speaking, their own backyard.

Leaning on the Marvel Universe

Meanwhile, Disney has plenty of content awaiting for theaters and streaming platforms. One report focused on the potential arrival for a trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which is about the fifth Fantastic Four movie released over the years. A trailer was suggested to be coming during the Super Bowl in just a few days, to which Asad Ayaz, Disney’s head of brand, responded “What?”.

Then, we have the issue of another animated Spider-Man release, which is far from the first such thing going back over 30 years. It is being called “the freshest take we’ve seen…in…forever,” and getting a lot of attention. Known as Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, the series features a critical change: instead of Tony Stark for a mentor, our young Parker instead finds himself under Norman Osborn’s tutelage. It is set to hit January 19 on Disney+.
