The aircraft, a CRJ-900 regional jet, was en route to Toronto from Delta’s hub of Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport when it crashed landed on approach, according to media reports. Apparently all 80 people on board have been evacuated from the aircraft, which overturned after crashing landing. At least nine people were reported to be injured.

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said in a statement that emergency crews are responding at the scene of the crash and that all flights to-and-from the Toronto airport have been temporarily halted. Delta said it is aware of the incident and “working to confirm details.” The crash comes following a winter storm that dumped more than eight inches of snow on the Toronto area.

Series of Crashes

The accident in Toronto is the latest in a series of recent airline crashes across North America. In January, a fatal midair collision occurred at Washington D.C.’s Reagan International Airport that killed 64 people. On Jan. 31, a regional jet that flew out of Northeast Philadelphia Airport crashed on the city’s streets shortly after takeoff.

Despite the recent problems, the FAA was just hit by a round of layoffs orchestrated by U.S. President Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (D.O.G.E), with hundreds of qualified air traffic controllers having been fired suddenly and without notice.
