The popular Hollywood movie “Defiance,” starring Daniel Craig, is behind the ETF. The movie depicts the three Bielski brothers, who were partisans fighting against the Nazis in World War II. Together, the brothers established a large partisan camp in the forest of Belarus, and they were able to rescue 1,200 Jews. The grandson and great-nephew of these three men is Matthew Bielski, who founded Defiance ETFs. He was inspired by his family’s story of one of the most heroic acts during a war in history. To honor his family, he named his company Defiance.

Defiance ETFs is a financial firm rooted in the story of courage against the odds. That spirit of defying convention influences the company’s approach toward building products and taking risks in the markets. They think about products where they could be the first mover; products that people will want to buy, and that differ from the offerings of every other ETF company.

Indeed, Defiance stands out for having developed its very popular ETFs around disruptive technologies, such as AI, quantum computing, and space.  The company’s unique offerings have proven so appealing to investors, that Defiance just hit the $10 Billion in AUM (assets under management) mark. Remaining innovative and always staying a step ahead of the markets has propelled Defiance to consistently deliver the types of ETFs clients are seeking. For example, its UFOX ETF is a connective technologies ETF that recognizes space as the next frontier for AI, and invests in companies involved in space infrastructure, satellites, and next-generation connectivity at the center of the AI revolution.

Another unique aspect of Defiance is its appeal to the next generation investor. Younger investors are set to acquire a lot of wealth from the boomers, but they don’t want to invest in the same types of mutual funds as their grandparents. Instead, they are younger, forward-thinking, and interested in technology. They tend to want exposure to the new disruptive technologies, such as AI and quantum computing, which are going to change the way they live, work and play.

Ultimately, engaging the next generation is a strategy that has paid off for Defiance. Once the younger generation started buying their innovative ETFs, they caught the attention of institutional investors, who followed their lead. That has helped seal Defiance ETF’s reputation as leading issuer specializing in thematic and leverage ETF products that is often first to market in disruptive technologies.
