DeepSeek announced that it has cut the price of input cache hits across its entire API suite to one-tenth of its previous price, with the change taking effect immediately. The move will help lower computing costs and attract more developers and enterprise users to its AI models.
At the same time, the company said its recently launched V4-Pro model will remain available at a 75% discount until May 5. The extension is part of its wider push to grow adoption quickly and expand its market share.
More broadly, many AI companies are now shifting from early testing to real-world adoption of large language models (LLMs). Because of this, reducing inference and usage costs has become a key factor in staying competitive in the AI sector.
Price War Intensifies Across the Global AI Market
DeepSeek’s price cuts are expected to push industry rivals to do the same, especially in China, where companies are rapidly building alternatives to Western technologies. This is because most firms are trying to attract more clients and developers by offering cheaper, more efficient AI tools.
As such, price reductions have now become a key competitive strategy in the sector, alongside performance and scalability. This trend is also being shaped by geopolitical factors, including U.S. tech restrictions, which have accelerated the growth of local AI ecosystems in China.
