Databricks, a leading artificial intelligence (AI) and data company, has named Simon Davies as its Senior Vice President (SVP) and General Manager for Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ). The appointment, announced in an official press release, comes as the private company speeds up its expansion in one of its fastest-growing regions.

It also follows Databricks’ report of strong regional momentum, with APJ recording more than 85% year-over-year growth in its latest quarter. The company is also reportedly scaling its physical presence and workforce, reinforcing its long-term commitment to the region as demand for AI-driven solutions rises across industries.

Databricks Ramps Up Growth Across Asia-Pacific

In his new role, Davies will be based in Singapore and will lead business operations across key markets, including Australia and New Zealand, ASEAN, India, Japan, Korea, and Greater China. As part of its expansion, Databricks now employs more than 1,500 people in the region. The company also plans to move into a new 32,000-square-foot regional headquarters in Singapore later this year, a move that will quadruple its office footprint.

Meanwhile, demand for AI technology continues to rise across Singapore, with strong demand across financial services, telecommunications, and the public sector. New customers also include Singapore Customs, Samsung Life Insurance (SSMMF), and SingTel (SNGNF). These firms join existing clients such as Atlassian (TEAM), LG Electronics (IN:LGEINDIA), National Australia Bank (NABZY), and Toyota Motor (TM).

Davies’ Expertise Positions Databricks For Next Growth Phase 

Databricks noted that Davies brings more than 30 years of experience in enterprise technology, data, and cloud services. He has held senior roles at well-known firms, including SAP SE (SAP), Splunk, Microsoft (MSFT), Salesforce (CRM), and Oracle (ORCL).

Most recently, he served as SAP’s Regional President for Asia Pacific, where he led operations, sales, services, and partner strategy across the region. Before that, he served as SVP and General Manager at Splunk, where he drove regional expansion and business growth.

Commenting on the appointment, Databricks Chief Revenue Officer Ron Gabrisko said Davies’ “leadership will be instrumental in unlocking the next phase of growth” for the company in Singapore. Davies also stated that he is joining the firm at a key moment, as organizations move from AI testing to using it at scale. He noted that the region he is set to lead presents a major opportunity and said he looks forward to helping customers turn data into real business.
