Zephyr Energy has disclosed that one of its U.S. subsidiaries was hit by a sophisticated cyberattack that diverted a single contractor payment of about £0.7 million to a fraudulent third-party account. The company has involved law enforcement, banks and external consultants to pursue recovery of the funds.

According to Zephyr, the incident has been contained, its IT systems have been assessed by a leading cybersecurity specialist, and operations and corporate activity continue as normal. The board states that additional security measures have been implemented and that the group’s working capital remains more than sufficient, meaning the loss is not expected to affect ongoing operations.
