West Fraser Takes Over Cariboo Pulp Venture

Mercer International (MERC) has released an update.

West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd. and Mercer International Inc. have mutually agreed to end their joint venture in Cariboo Pulp and Paper, resulting in West Fraser becoming the sole owner and operator. The Cariboo mill, a mainstay in Quesnel, B.C. since 1972, produces 340,000 tonnes of NBSK pulp annually and supports nearly 300 jobs. Mercer will focus its resources more strategically post-dissolution and expects a non-cash impairment charge in the first quarter.
