Valley National Bancorp ( (VLY) ) has provided an update.

Valley National Bancorp reported first-quarter 2026 net income of $163.9 million, or $0.28 per diluted share, down from $195.4 million in the fourth quarter of 2025 but up from $106.1 million a year earlier, with adjusted net income of $168.9 million reflecting improved profitability versus 2025. Management highlighted stable net interest margin at 3.17%, rising net interest income driven by lower deposit costs, and strong growth in core deposits and loans, alongside modestly improving credit quality and a better efficiency ratio, underscoring a strengthened balance sheet despite higher expenses and lower non-interest income.

Total deposits rose to $52.9 billion as of March 31, 2026, propelled by $955 million in direct customer deposit growth and a reduction in higher-cost brokered deposits, while total loans increased to $50.8 billion, led by owner-occupied commercial real estate and relationship-driven C&I lending. The bank maintained an allowance for credit losses at about 1.18% of loans, saw net charge-offs and past-due and non-accrual loans trend lower, and posted first-quarter 2026 annualized ROA of 1.02% and ROTCE of 11.56%, as CEO Ira Robbins emphasized continued strategic hiring and early AI investments to capitalize on a rapidly evolving banking landscape and support more sustainable earnings.
