TotalEnergies SE ( (FR:TTE) ) has provided an update.
TotalEnergies has started up France’s first advanced plastics recycling plant at its Grandpuits site southeast of Paris, a key step in converting the former refinery into a zero-crude platform. Using technology from partner Plastic Energy, the plant can process 15,000 tons of hard-to-recycle household plastic waste annually that would otherwise be landfilled or incinerated.
Through a pyrolysis process, the facility turns plastic waste into synthetic oil, which is then used as petrochemical feedstock to produce recycled plastics with quality equivalent to virgin material. These recycled plastics meet stringent standards for food and medical uses, and long-term supply of waste feedstock is secured via agreements with French partners Citeo and Paprec, reinforcing TotalEnergies’ push into circular plastics and low-carbon industrial activities in France.
