TBS HOLDINGS INC. ( (JP:9401) ) has issued an update.
TBS HOLDINGS, INC. has agreed to form a joint venture in Japan with Korean entertainment major CJ ENM and domestic streaming operator U-NEXT HOLDINGS to build a global IP creation framework spanning Japanese and South Korean content. The new company, to be based in Tokyo with capital of ¥1.25 billion and majority-owned by CJ ENM, will combine TBS’s drama production capabilities, CJ ENM’s global-standard development system and U-NEXT’s large streaming platform to enhance the value and international reach of Japan-originated IPs, reflecting TBS’s push for global expansion under its Vision 2030 strategy.
TBS will hold a 40% stake in the venture, which is expected to become its affiliate and have some overlapping directors and executives from TBS group companies. The initiative deepens TBS’s existing strategic partnership with CJ ENM on drama co-production and is intended to accelerate global distribution and monetization of Asian content, potentially strengthening TBS’s competitive position in the rapidly consolidating international streaming and content market.
