Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group ( (JP:8316) ) has provided an update.

Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group reported solid earnings growth for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2026, with ordinary income rising 6.1% and profit attributable to owners of the parent climbing 34.4%, supported by sharply higher comprehensive income and a recovery in equity-method affiliate contributions. The group’s total assets expanded to ¥328.5 trillion while maintaining a 4.8% net assets ratio, and it plans higher total dividends, another stock split in September 2026 and ongoing share repurchases, underscoring a continued commitment to shareholder returns.

Cash flows showed a large net outflow from operating activities offset by inflows from investing activities, but the group still ended the year with a sizeable ¥59.4 trillion in cash and cash equivalents. Looking ahead to the year ending March 31, 2027, the company forecasts a further increase in profit attributable to owners of the parent to ¥1.7 trillion and an adjusted earnings per share reflecting both the planned stock split and share buybacks, signaling confidence in earnings resilience despite more modest projected growth.
