Sumitomo Metal Mining Co ( (JP:5713) ) has shared an update.
Sumitomo Metal Mining has disclosed that its Philippine nickel smelting subsidiary, Coral Bay Nickel Corporation, suffered a ransomware attack in which two servers were encrypted following unauthorized third-party access. The company immediately isolated the affected servers and, with external specialists, is investigating the scope of the breach and working to restore systems, while apologizing to business partners and stakeholders.
Operations at Coral Bay Nickel’s production plant remain unaffected, with control systems intact and production continuing, and there has been no impact on other group mines, smelters, refineries, or plants. The networks of Coral Bay Nickel, Sumitomo Metal Mining Philippine Holdings, and Taganito HPAL Nickel have been disconnected as a precaution, and although the group currently expects only a limited impact on consolidated results for the fiscal year ended March 2026, a detailed assessment of financial effects is ongoing.
