An update from Studsvik AB ( (SE:SVIK) ) is now available.
Studsvik AB has completed the acquisition of Swedish SMR project developer Kärnfull Next AB, extending its business from traditional nuclear technical services into early-stage project development for small modular reactors in the Nordic region. Kärnfull Next brings expertise in site selection, project development and permitting, reinforcing Studsvik’s role in the emerging market for new nuclear in Sweden and Europe.
As part of the deal, Kärnfull Next founders Christian Sjölander and John Ahlberg join Studsvik’s executive team, taking leadership roles in new build projects and marketing to strengthen the company’s brand ahead of its 80-year anniversary. To partly finance the EUR 6.5 million acquisition, Studsvik’s board approved a directed share issue of up to 124,959 ordinary shares to the sellers, broadening Studsvik’s nuclear lifecycle offering while slightly diluting existing shareholders to fulfil the purchase agreement.
The transaction is expected to enhance Studsvik’s strategic positioning as interest in new nuclear accelerates across Europe, supported by updated Swedish nuclear legislation and growing recognition of fossil-free baseload power’s importance. By integrating project development capabilities with its established technical heritage, Studsvik aims to become a more comprehensive partner for next-generation nuclear projects, potentially attracting new industrial and technology collaborators.
