South32 ( (AU:S32) ) just unveiled an announcement.

South32 Limited has announced that its Mozal Aluminium smelter in Mozambique will be placed on care and maintenance from March 2026 due to the inability to secure a new electricity supply agreement. The decision follows unsuccessful negotiations with the Government of Mozambique, Hidroeléctrica de Cahora Bassa, and Eskom, amid ongoing drought conditions affecting electricity supply. The company acknowledges the impact on employees, suppliers, and stakeholders and plans to support them during the transition. The alumina previously supplied to Mozal will be sold to third-party customers.
